Ocotillo, California Elopement
It all starts in the desert. A place of fond memories and adventures. Sandi’s family grew up very poor. Their vacations consisted of nights at their grandpa’s home in Ocotillo, California. A tiny town on the outskirts of a windmill farm with a handful of neighbors, no stores, one bar, and 1 stop sign. This is the place where her heart would rest from her worries. The blinking lights of the windmills, the space to breathe, and where the skies could give way to billions of stars.
Many years later, Sandi and Jason crossed paths. It was an instant connection, one that anyone would call a soul recognizing it’s true mate. They became friends and shortly after Jason was deployed for a year. They lost touch and found each other again just 3 years ago. They helped each other through some rough times. They continued to grow closer helping each other find themselves again. While talking with Jason, he told me of the first time Sandi took him to her grandpa’s house. He told me that she had never taken anyone there. They sat outside in the desert all night and watched the red lights blink on and off on the windmills.
And here we are again, on a sunny January day back to the place of peace and fond memories. Where Sandi and Jason brought their closest family and friends to watch them vow each other the rest of their life. Lots of obstacles stood in their way, but their dedication, love, and compassion got them through. Their ceremony was full of laughter and sweet tears, just as the sun was setting looking over the desert. Twinkling lights highlighted their night of enjoying their time with those they love toasting, and creating new memories. Their first dance and official husband and wife was followed by a touching scene of them and their guests sending up floating lanterns. One of the sweetest and most authentic days I’ve seen. I count myself lucky to have been a part of this day and to know this sweet family.
